Based upon the article ‘Composing a life story’ by Bateson, we were required to create two one-page narratives that represent different versions of perspectives on our own life stories of learning. This meant that we had to write two narratives based on experiences that had shaped our learning. For this task, I chose two defining moments for me that happened whilst in sixth form, as well as my first semester at TRU.
Later on within the semester, we were asked to re-read our life stories and reflect on them based on certain questions posed. I don’t believe that my learning had changed since the defining moment within sixth form because the negativity I received encouraged me to do better so that my teachers could see that they were wrong in their predictions. It made me realise that although teachers give you the help and research to progress, some teachers do not take on the role of understanding the struggles of their students, or are blind to seeing how their students could improve. Below, is my reflection on my second defining life story.
